This is all quite new to me so bear with me if I ramble on !

Well, what a week we have had. Three new venues : The Pinewood Hotel, Rowhill Grange and The Radisson Edwardian have all come to us and asked us to be their Preferred Supplier for Music. We are now Preferred Supplier or Music Advisors at 16 venues and we love working with them all. They are all completely different – from Barns to City Chic to Country Hotels and Lavish stately homes.
We have also been working on our new website which will be up and running soon (if I can understand the order of codes that my very patient website “helper” – you know who you are – is trying to teach me!) so all in all a very fulfilling week and we couldn’t do it without the support of our lovely partners – Brides and Grooms, Couples celebrating Birthdays and Anniversaries, Charities, Fellow Suppliers and the venues where we work so a BIG THANK YOU to you all.

How to choose a wedding band

Posted by on Mar 6, 2016 in Blog Posts | 0 comments

There are many types of bands available to choose for your wedding or event. Bear in mind who will be with you at your event and whether you are having a theme. Here are just a few ideas for you.

Pop/Cover Bands : These bands tend to do a selection of music from the 1950’s to the present day. Prices are generally from around £850 to £2,000 depending on how many members are in the band.

Indie bands : This is generally a male fronted guitar based band. Originally this type of band were independent of the main record companies and so were known as Indie. Repertoire can be varied with songs by performers like The Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys, Blur, Oasis, Paul Weller.

Swing Bands : Anything from a 3 piece to a 20 piece Big Band. These bands can be male or female fronted and generally do music from the 1930’s to the 60’s. Some bands will also do up to date songs in a swing style.

Festival type bands : anything from a duo upwards. We have a number of excellent bands who are suitable for your Festival themed wedding or Event. They can be guitar based folk type bands or bands who play more varied instruments such as violin, mandolin, bass, ukelele, double bass and even washboard!

Motown : More funky style bands performing music from the 1960’s onwards. Artists such as Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes with wonderful songs like Ain’t no mountain high enough, R.E.S.P.E.C.T , River deep mountain high and Signed , sealed delivered.

Soul : Soul bands tend to be slightly bigger bands performing music such as songs by Otis Redding, The Jacksons, The Blues Brothers. These bands may also perform Disco and Funk music such as Chic, James Brown, Tina Turner and The Doobie Brothers.

Barn Dance and Ceilidh Bands : There are three main types of bands in this category , Barn Dance , Irish and Scottish. Barn Dance bands tend to be English or American type music , Irish are Fiddle and Guitar based and Scottish Fiddle and Accordion based. These bands all come with a caller to explain the dances. This is a great ice-breaker and can be paired with a Disco to take over for the second half of the evening.

We love unusual requests at Melisma Music so don’t hesitate to give us your ideas and we will come up with something for you to wow your guests.

Select Syncopators

I hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine. Our brides and grooms are having a rare Summer wedding season.

It’s been a while since my last blog post. I wanted to try to do one a month but we are so busy that it is one of the things that falls by the wayside.
We took over doing all the bookings for in June last year and since then we have organised music all over the country from the North of Scotland to Devon. We have lots more musicians to call upon now and it’s an exciting time meeting musicians from all over the country.
We are pleased to be the Music Advisor at Clock Barn in Hampshire now and are looking forward to our first Wedding Open Day there in October. I will be updating the Events page when I have a minute too.
This week we have had weddings in Northumberland on Thursday, Buckinghamshire on Friday and today we have a wedding in Devon, parties in Harrogate, York and Mercedes Benz World in Weybridge and a Charity Ball at Headley Court in Surrey 10 minutes from our base in Reigate. We are looking forward to the launch of the new Ballroom at the Montcalm Hotel in London on the 23rd of July where we are proud to be the new Music Supplier in conjunction with Last Minute Musicians.
Andrew and I have been singing at lots of lovely events recently and Andrew had the pleasure of singing at Hedsor House a few weeks ago where Quartet was filmed. Thank you to Planned2Perfection for booking him. It’s great that we can work with other agents and pride ourselves on having our partners that we can work with on a reciprocal basis.
I will be uploading some articles to my google plus account soon – once I find out how to do it!

On Tuesday I was the guest speaker at the Ladies Afternoon Tea in aid of The Ladies Taverners on the lawn at Rowhill Grange – what a lovely day it was with such friendly ladies. We were entertained by our Dixieland Jazz Group The Select Syncopators and I hope to be doing lots more talks on music and our consultancy soon.

I may even add the articles here as well.
Rare day off tomorrow – first since Easter so looking forward to a rest.

Enjoy the sunshine , long may it last!

10th March 2012 – updates

It’s been another busy week this week, Four Weddings and a Wedding Fair this weekend ! We have been working on the website and I think it’s nearly ready although every time I look at it I find something else to Tweak!

Rebecca (one of our Harpists) and Kevin Fitzsimmons (our fabulous Jazz singer) and I were all at The Savoy on Wednesday at the request of one of our Partners (see the Partners Page) Temple Gregory who were launching their new website. What a lovely evening was had by all and the photos can be seen on our Faceboook Page in the next few days. Just click below to see our page.
I was also at Great Ormond Street Hospital on Wednesday where we sponsor Music for the Staff and Patients every week. We are proud to be able to help at the Hospital as our charity work is very important to us. We also volunteer at two Charities – The Children’s Trust and Young Epilepsy and help many other charities in their fundraising efforts.

Our daughter Eilidh has been busy with her camera and took some photos when we were at Wasing on Sunday which the cake lady would like to use on her New Website!
